Why Texas A&M basketball fans should not abandon ship on this team just yet

Texas A&M basketball fans are down in the dumps after the Aggies fell to Mississippi State in Starkville last night. It seemed like all of the Ags' worst habits came back to haunt them in this one, leading to endless frustration among fans as A&M turned the ball over possession after possession and seemingly couldn't hit a shot.

Well, with almost 24 hours of distance from this one, I think Aggie fans are maybe too quick to shovel dirt on this season, as some have begun to do. The possibility of a one seed now seems quite distant, yes, but a two seed is still very much in play.

The nature of college basketball is such that you see things like this happen every now and again. Both Auburn and Florida nearly dropped games to South Carolina in Columbia, for example. It's really tough to play on the road in this sport, but the Aggies have shown the ability to break through in plenty of these games, including against Purdue.

The offensive end just wasn't there for the Aggies last night. There were some opportunities to take control of the game that the Ags didn't grab hold of. This season, though, the Aggies have been some of the best in the country at those kinds of "kill shots," as you can see in the graph below.

The defensive end was there for the Aggies to lay one of these down last night, but they weren't able to put the ball in the basket on offense.

There's also still a lot of opportunity for the Aggies still upcoming. If the trip to Florida ends up this way, or even worse, that could be a little more concerning— but on the flipside, if they take the Gators down in Gainesville, all memory of this one would be washed away.

Heck, if the Aggies take down Tennessee this Saturday, not too many will be overly concerned with how this one went. This team has already proved so much this year, and they have more opportunities to do so yet ahead. The book is not closed on this season, and you can bet this team will bounce back soon.
