Why Texas A&M football could be the top SEC team in next week's CFP rankings
Drawing ever closer to the final month of the season, Texas A&M football is in a good spot. Of course, we've seen many teams crumple in November, but it seems like this Aggie team is far from teetering at the moment.
They have quite the challenge ahead of them this weekend, as many have acknowledged, but getting out of Columbia with a win would be massive for the Aggies. The following Tuesday, the first College Football Playoff rankings are released.
Now, for all of the heartburn these rankings have caused, there are some college football fans online who have basically broken down into a science how these things are calculated. They've had one of the highest hit rates when it comes to predicting where teams shake out from week to week.
Ahead of next week's initial rankings, it looks like there could be a surprise team leading the SEC: your fightin' Texas Aggies.
As Dave Bartoo, an advanced metrics guru in the sport, mentions, the Aggies have the best strength of schedule, most quality wins, and 2 top 25 wins at the moment. Those are some pretty surprising numbers to me, as I have to think Georgia is right behind the Aggies in this regard, but that's apparently the case.
The CFP committee has been unafraid to shake things up from time to time, so I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this come to fruition, especially if the Ags get a win over a tough opponent this Saturday to continue to bolster their resume.
