Young Texas A&M defensive tackle entering portal is only surprising for one reason

Some of the young Texas A&M players have been overwhelmed by the portal additions, and for good reason. It led to WR Izaiah Williams entering, and now, another young buck from the defense is doing the same.

Rising redshirt sophomore Dealyn Evans has announced he's entering the transfer portal. While he didn't have the opportunity we thought he would, he always had potential. Now, that will be saved for another team.

Evans could've seen the field more if he stayed, but this signals how he wasn't willing to give up any playing time to anyone else.

This is understandable, but Evans could've been something special if he had stayed. He was a top-100 recruit in the 2024 class, and he had a case to get the most playing time next season.

This also signals a complete 180 for the DT group, as Tyler Onyedim and Albert Regis are now gone. Brandon Davis-Swain committed to Texas A&M earlier this week, and with Evans leaving, Elko has some work to do.

Williams was someone who was still going to work his way up from the depth chart, but Evans was right there. Evans saw action in five games this season, totaling eight tackles. I understand how he probably didn't want to split playing time with another defensive tackle, but Evans was definitely going to play.

Fans know what's next. Elko will make another move to pair Davis-Swain with another stud at DT. Elko has been winning in the portal, and fans do not doubt that it will continue.
