2-game skid has killed Texas A&M's 1-seed dreams, but Ags are still highly-esteemed

Despite a disappointing week from the Aggies, Texas A&M basketball is still well-positioned for March.

Texas A&M basketball is coming off of a disappointing week. The Aggies lost in a midweek road trip to a Mississippi State team that, while in the midst of a great year, has been rather inconsistent. Then, they came home to Reed Arena to take on a top-10 squad in the Tennessee Volunteers, and though the stars seemed aligned for the Aggies to emerge victorious, there was no such luck.

Not only the losses themselves but the frustrating ways in which they took place— a total offensive implosion against the Bulldogs, and an inability to stop a hot-shooting Volunteer squad— were pretty infuriating for Aggie fans. However, just like I said on Wednesday, now is not the time to punch out on this Texas A&M basketball squad.

The one-seed dreams are all but over and done with at this point. A two seed could still be in the cards if the Aggies manage a 4-0 stretch— one that would include wins over two top-three teams— to close the season. But even if not, things are still rosy for the Aggies at this juncture.

Texas A&M basketball holding steady at three-seed line despite twin setbacks this week

Despite the loss, bracketologist Joe Lunardi still has Texas A&M basketball up on the three-seed line, matching the Aggies' highest-ever seed they've achieved.

This is helped by the fact that several other teams right around that point in the rankings all lost, namely Iowa State and Wisconsin.

There's still a big opportunity with Florida on the slate for a midweek road trip. That game will be exponentially tougher than what the Ags just finished facing, but they have the capacity to topple just such a goliath if they play to their strengths.

There's still plenty to look forward to in the here and now for Texas A&M basketball. The Aggies have hit a few speedbumps lately, and we've been talking about just how tough this stretch is for quite some time now. These are three of the top teams in the entire nation, so while losing is a disappointment, it was always a strong possibility. Bailing out now would be a mistake.
