Texas A&M Softball: Harrington’s Strong Outing Leads Aggies Past Sam Houston
By Shelbie Warr
Behind an impressive outing by Trinity Harrington and a two-out sixth inning rally, the Texas A&M softball team improved to 5-0 with a shutout win over Sam Houston State on Wednesday.
The Aggies moved up a spot to No. 17 in the latest ESPN College Softball rankings after a strong opening weekend. The ladies continued with this momentum, taking down Sam Houston State in their midweek contest.
Harrington’s Dominant Outing
Junior Trinity Harrington took the circle for the Aggies on Wednesday night, ready to take on the Bearkats of Sam Houston State. Coming off a strong showing vs. Lamar on Saturday (4 hits, 2 runs in 6 innings of work), Harrington looked to continue her hot start to the season.
Continue it she did, tossing a complete seven innings without surrendering a run — allowing only one hit. Her ERA for the season now sits at 0.54.

Perhaps most impressive from her performance was the fifth inning. After an error and a double, the Aggies found themselves in a bit of a pickle. The Bearkats had runners on second and third with nobody out. Could this be the day Sam Houston finally beats the Aggies? Not on Harrington’s watch. She stepped up and stuck out the next three hitters she faced, not surrendering a single run.
She pilled up eight strikeouts in her seven innings of work, finishing with 102 pitches on the day.
The Aggie Offense
The offense was seemingly quiet through five innings on Wednesday night. This was due, in large part, to the performance of SHSU’s starter Tayler Atkinson. Atkinson pitched a beaut in her own right, allowing two runs on four hits, most of that damage coming in the home half of the sixth inning.
After a ground out and a strike out, Tori Vidales got the rally started with a single up the middle, advancing to second on a wild pitch.
Ashley Walters kept it going by working a walk to extend the inning. Enter pinch-runner Miranda Miles.
Kristen Cuyos singled to third base, moving both runners up 90 feet. Freshman Sarah Hudek came up big after that with a single that scored both Vidales and Miles. She was safe at second base due to a fielding error by the Bearkats.
Harrington made her way back to the circle in the 7th, forcing three groundouts to end the game despite a one-out walk.
