A Nice Guy that Couldn’t Win Enough Games

The inconsistency and underachieving has been a staple during this 6-year run, however there was definitely outside factors that affected the on-court product. Just months after being hired, Kennedy was tragically diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, causing him to miss much of fall camp with the team in his first season. According to sources in the recruiting circuit, this led to in-state and conference rivals using the 47 year olds’ diagnosis to negatively recruit against the Aggies as well.

Overall it is an incredibly tough situation for the athletic department, as Kennedy has done everything to endear himself to the fan base and the administration. Everything except win consistently. His character is unrivaled, however this is still a results driven business and (save for the 2016 season) the man has yet to deliver.

There is far too much talent and resources at his disposal to continuously fail to compete in one of the worst basketball conferences in the nation. If there’s an open position in (Texas A&M athletic director) Scott Woodward’s office, he’d be a tremendous candidate for it. However his reign as head coach needs to come to a close.
