Texas A&M Football: How much money will Aggie draft picks make?
Five Texas A&M football players were drafted in the 2017 NFL draft. Many more have signed as free agents. How much money are these guys going to make?
As Cuba Gooding Jr. told Tom Cruise in Jerry MaGuire, “Show me the money.” Five former Texas A&M football players heard their names called in the 2017 NFL Draft while many others signed on with teams after the draft. Some contract details are public while others are still under wraps.
Because of the NFL slot system, a reasonable estimate can be made for all of the contracts of the drafted players. Undrafted free agents will typically have signing bonuses ranging from nothing at all to $50,000. It’s a check, but it’s well below the value of those guys that were drafted early on.
Garrett has officially signed his contract with the Cleveland Browns. His four year deal comes in right at his draft slot value, a total of $30,412,255 with a $20,258,004 signing bonus.
Justin Evans is locked in with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’ll earn $5,199,295 over four years with a signing bonus of $1,921,306.
Daeshon Hall has signed with the Carolina Panthers. The official terms of his four year deal include a signing bonus of $861,752 and a total contract value of $3,261,752.
Jermaine Eluemunor has signed his contract with the Baltimore Ravens. The four year deal has a total value of $2,667,155 with a signing bonus of $267,155.
Undrafted Free Agent Signings
Every undrafted free agent signs a three year contract for the league minimum which currently sits at $1,665,000. None of that money is guaranteed. The only money that they’re guaranteed to walk out the door with is their signing bonus, which not everyone gets. It’s a show me deal that is both high risk and high reward.
Five Aggies have signed these such contracts. None of them received a signing bonus.
Next: How does each Aggie draftee fit with their new team?
Several other Aggies have announced their NFL destinations. Many of them will play attend rookie mini camp and/or training camp on a tryout basis. If they impress the decision makers they could be signing to a deal before the regular season begin.
