1. The hiring of Jimbo Fisher

Texas A&M football put the rest of the nation on notice when they pulled off the biggest coaching hire in modern college football history. Despite the multitude of naysayers, the Aggies were able to lure Jimbo Fisher away from Florida State. They signed him to a massive 10-year, $75 Million dollar contract that will keep him in College Station for a long while.

Championship coaches don’t pick up and leave. There’s not much of a precedent for Fisher’s decision to head to Texas which is part of what made his hiring both unexpected and incomprehensible for much of sports media.

Fisher brings a career 78.3 winning percentage to College Station. He’s won 10 games or more in six of his eight seasons at Florida State and only finished the season unranked once. Irrespective of how his time in maroon and white pans out, there was not a better hire that the Aggies could have made.

The expectations are through the roof for Fisher in Aggieland and they should be given the circumstances of his hiring. For now though, the Aggies won the offseason. Fisher was hired to win football games, but that’s a sweet start to what promises to be an exciting 2018 and beyond for Texas A&M football.
