Texas A&M Players to Watch

For the second time this season, Rob Childress is changing the pitching line up for the Aggies. Sophomore left-hander John Doxakis is taking over the opening night starter role that used to belong to right handed junior Stephen Kolek.

Doxakis started 2018 in the bullpen, but was moved into a starting role when Childress took freshman Chandler Jozwiak out of the rotation. He has struck out 43 and allowed 38 hits in 48 innings of work in 2018. Only Kilkenny has better numbers.

Kilkenny is moving from closing the series to starting the middle game and has been stellar for the Aggies this season. His 1.49 ERA and .195 opponent batting average are best on the team. It will be interesting to see him in a slightly new role this weekend.

Saturday’s starter is still to be announced, but with Stephen Kolek – along with several others – coming out of the bullpen against Texas on Tuesday night I wouldn’t be surprised to see either Christian Roa or Dustin Saenz get a look.

Next: Aggies defeat Longhorns...again

Besides the pitching, it will be important to see this weekend if the Texas A&M offense can keep up the production it finally found against LSU and was able to sustain against Texas on Tuesday. The Aggies were able to get the two-out hits they needed in order to stay in front of the Longhorns, and continuing that production will be important as conference play resumes.
