Game 3: Texas A&M defeats Mississippi St 7-4 (Full Box)

Kaylor Chafin continued his solid run, Stephen Kolek picked up his fourth win of the year and the Aggies claimed the series over the Bulldogs with a 7-4 win on Sunday afternoon. In a tight game, Kolek continued to deliver in his new Sunday role, allowing only three runs on eight hits in five strong innings of work.

Chafin, already having picked up two wins this week, delivered another solid relief performance as he continues to look like the 2017 Kaylor Chafin. He delivered another 3.1 innings, allowing only one run on five hits. Nolan Hoffmann closed out the game, retiring both batters he faced and earning his second save of the weekend and ninth overall.

I stated earlier in the week that in order for Texas A&M to be successful in Starkville, than freshman Zach DeLoach would have to break out of his two month long slump and perform at the plate for the Aggies.

Sunday afternoon, DeLoach did just that. Going 4-for-5 at the plate with an RBI, DeLoach provided four of the Aggie’s fourteen hits and looked like the back-to-back SEC Freshman of the Week from the start of the season. Will Frizzell and Braden Shewmake each provided two additional hits for Texas A&M.
