4. Kellen Mond

While it will be Jimbo’s job to implement the playbook, it’ll be our next player/players’ job to execute them. All eyes will be on the two quarterbacks that are battling it out for the Aggies this season when they take the field. Both have something to prove; it seems that both also have a starting spot to lose.

Mond was recently named the starter in this week’s season opener, but Starkel will see the field as well. The word on the street is that Mond has made leaps and bounds and has managed to narrow the gap between him in Starkel when it comes to their passing game. I’ve been a big Starkel advocate in the past, but if Mond has made improvements, then I’ll be more than willing to eat crow.

Those rumored improvements are what we need to see from Mond this week. As a true freshman, he struggled at times to make routine throws where Starkel typically prevailed. Even though there have been times where we have seen him shine…

…it’s the basic throws that need to be taken care of first.

This should be a great opportunity to really shine too. The Demons are a weaker team in comparison to the rest of the Ags’ schedule so Mond should have plenty of opportunities to make plays and ease into the season.
