The former Aggie who made some pretty harsh allegations against the Texas A&M football program was dismissed by Arizona after a racist video surfaced.

Texas A&M football came under the microscope last week when former linebacker Santino Marchiol accused Jimbo Fisher and his staff of forking over cash to entertain recruits on unofficial visits, forcing players to come in early for workouts and film sessions and disguising it as study time, and mishandling Marchiol’s ankle injury and making him run 24 100-yard sprints on it, among other things in a report by USA Today’s Dan Wolken.

The over-arching reasons Marchiol gave was the staff believed the team was soft, and often verbally reminded them of that fact.

These allegations should be taken seriously by all parties involved. Texas A&M should (and will) be cooperating with any investigation. That doesn’t mean people weren’t looking at these allegations with one eyebrow raised.

It’s easy to do so with the new rule that basically incentivizes players to narc on their former head coaches so they don’t have to sit out a season after transferring. The easy solution to this is to abolish that ridiculous rule and none of this would have happened in the first place.

However, based on some news this week, it appears there might be more reason to not believe Marchiol’s claims. He was dismissed by the Arizona program after a video was found of him uttering racist remarks about his black teammates at Texas A&M.

The Dallas Morning News first reported the video, which has since been deleted. In it, Marchiol can apparently be heard using the term “monkey” to describe safety Keldrick Carper.

If there is any truth to the damning allegations Marchiol made against Texas A&M, the Aggies will accept any punishment handed down by the NCAA. There will not nor should there be excuses made for that kind of behavior from the coaching staff, specifically the handling of injuries in that manner. The safety of players should take precedent over winning and changing a culture.

There is also no room for the kind of behavior shown or the remarks by Marchiol in today’s society. Even if the comment was made in jest, it’s easy to see why he was dismissed from Arizona’s program. The result would have been the same if he were still at Texas A&M.
