Offensive MVP: Ty “Baby” Coleman — IF

I began writing this article with Bryce Blaum as my Offensive MVP. But after a slow weekend against Vandy and a flat-line of sorts, I was questioning my decision. My second choice was freshman Ty Coleman, who I wasn’t quite convinced to use for my MVP yet simply because he doesn’t have near the at-bats that Blaum does. But, after his 3 run dinger against the Rice Owls on Tuesday, I knew that his bat was too hot and too clutch not to edge out the Ole Miss transfer.

With only 59 at-bats, Coleman is second on the team with 4 homeruns and is leads the team in OPS (minimum three at bats). He also leads the team with 19 RBIs and is second to Cam Blake in batting average (minimum three AB). Fans have grown to never doubt the younger of the Coleman brothers and his youth and prospective future is more than exciting and hopeful. With pre-season All-American Braden Shewmake likely to depart for the MLB, the Aggies were looking for a new consistent force. It looks like they seem to have found it in #1 Ty “Baby” Coleman.

If there is any critique to his current game, it is his speed and his quickness over at third base. Ty isn’t a burner on the base path and sometimes the hot corner at third base will get the jump on him. Luckily, as a true freshman, this is something that he will likely grow out of and he will only get faster and quicker as time goes on.
