Texas A&M Football will take on a trending Mississippi State Football program

On paper, this looks like it should be an easy win for the Texas A&M Football team. That said, the Mississippi State Football program has one of the best head coaches in college football in Mike Leach, who is entering his second season. Anything could happen for MSU.

ESPN seems to agree, as their Football Power Index has the Bulldogs ranked as the 8th-best team in the country. Now, in all likelihood, this will be a figure that is pointed out to show how flawed ESPN’s FPI is, but it’s still worth mentioning.

The Mississippi State football team will be returning 16 starters from last year’s 4-7 season in which the Aggies beat them by a comfortable 14-point margin. That said, it’s not ridiculous to say that the Bulldogs can make up 14-points worth of ground from season to season, especially if the Aggies quarterback and offensive line situation doesn’t see as much improvement as expected.

Strangely enough, since A&M joined the SEC, the yearly matchup between these teams has been evenly split, but never a close game. In 9 matchups, the victor has never been decided by less than a touchdown.

That said, the Aggies hold the 5-4 advantage over Mike Leach’s new team and that shouldn’t change in 2021.
