Texas A&M Basketball: Mountain West Freshman of the Year joins Aggies
The Texas A&M Basketball team will look to bounce back from a tough season in 2020. The year was irregular and Buzz Williams suffered as a result. But 2021 looks like it could be entirely different.
Williams has been hitting the transfer portal hard, looking for new players to fill in for the Aggies as they attempt to mount a bounce-back in 2021.
Specifically, Williams has already signed four transfer players, meaning that this team will have an entirely new look in the upcoming season. It’s a bold strategy and hopefully, it will pay off for the head coach entering his third season with the program.
The Texas A&M Basketball team signed a former Mountain West standout freshman
Adding to a handful of transfers that include Ethan Henderson, Javonta Brown-Ferguson, and Aaron Cash prove that Williams is trying to make a difference. On Saturday, he would add to that list of players by signing a former Mountain West standout from Wyoming.
Specifically, he managed to sign Marcus Williams, last year’s Mountain West Freshman of the Year. Williams was also in the running for National Freshman of the Year but fell short due to some hefty competition.
Williams had a strong high school career, but wouldn’t receive much attention from schools, only receiving four offers. Those offers came from Longwood, Northern Colorado, Stephen F. Austin, and Wyoming, where he would eventually attend.
Despite being young, the former Wyoming guard will bring a handful of experience to a squad that will be playing with a lot of inexperienced players. Specifically, he’ll bring scoring presence that is much needed on Buzz Williams’ team.
It’s unclear how he’ll fit into a team that will be undergoing arguably more change than any other SEC roster this offseason, but he should be an immediate contributor. Look for Williams to be one of the more prolific scorers on this team in 2021.
The process that Buzz Williams has used to rebuild this team is a unique one. It may be high-risk, high-reward, so the Aggies’ 2021 men’s basketball season could be a rollercoaster. Get ready to meet an entirely new team as soon as the first game of the upcoming season.
