Texas A&M QB Haynes King will likely take the reigns in 2021

It has been well documented that the most likely starter for the Aggies in 2021 will be Haynes King. Gig’Em Gazette has already done its fair share of overhyping for the young quarterback, but we thought we could pile on a little bit more.

If future Heisman talks for King seem premature — that’s because they are. King hasn’t even won the starting job, much less any national awards. But that’s not what today’s conversation is about. Today is about the idea that he could become a Heisman contender in the future.

The Aggies already have a culture in place that allows for quarterbacks to have takeover seasons. Again, look at Johnny Manziels tenure with the Aggies. King will look to replicate some of the success that happened before he was even in high school.

That said, the door is open for him to come in and make things happen. He’s a big-bodied, agile quarterback who can launch the ball deep if he has to.

He may have a low floor as a player, but he has a significantly higher ceiling than Mond did under center. If King earns the starting spot, he could be the beginning of a revamped Texas A&M offense.
