Texas A&M Football: June is huge month for recruiting in College Station
June will be a huge month in recruiting for the Texas A&M Football team.
After waiting for what has felt like years, high school recruits finally have the opportunity to make in-person visits to the schools that they are interested in. Perhaps more importantly, they’ll be able to meet their prospective coaches in person, something that hasn’t been a possibility while COVID has been looming.
The Aggies will be taking full advantage of this, with 30 prospects already having scheduled visits to College Station. The Aggies have been preparing for this, as they installed a new recruit photo room as recently as a month ago.
Visits will be extremely important this time around, as many players who are already committed to certain schools may swing in another direction after meeting coaches in person and getting a first-hand look at campuses.
The Texas A&M Football team has a handful of high-profile recruits making visits
Jimbo Fisher is all over recruiting, as he’ll have virtually every important recruit in the 2022 class making a visit in the month of June.
Right now, the Aggies have a top ten recruiting class. For a while, it was in the top five, but during the dead zone, recruiting has slowed down and rankings have changed, dropping them down to the eighth spot. At the moment, the specific ranking is relatively meaningless. That said, having a top ten class is a positive sign toward the future.
As mentioned, the Aggies have 30 prospects scheduled to visit, including eight 5-star prospects. This list of 5-star prospects includes a 2022 QB commit in Connor Weigman, who looks like he could be a dangerous passer at the college level. There will be extra emphasis on him during the visits, as he is the team’s prized recruit at the moment.
Strangely enough, Fisher looks like he’s trying to build a physically large team, with only a single prospect out of the 30 scheduled to visit having a listed height of under 6-0.
Some other notable names include Malick Sylla, the 3rd-best weak-side defensive end in his class and a current Texas A&M commit and offensive tackle PJ Williams, a top-100 prospect.
The highest-rated player with a scheduled visit is Denver Harris, the 6th-best player in the country. The cornerback is one of the most talented defenders in the country and could make a big addition to an Aggies passing defense that hasn’t mirrored the success seen by its rush defense.
