Texas A&M just formed a three-headed coaching monster
After the 2020-21 seasons, Texas A&M‘s coaching duo of Buzz Williams and Jimbo Fisher took an interesting turn.
While Fisher saw unprecedented success in charge of the football team in 2020, Williams had an unexpectedly bad season as head coach of the Texas A&M Basketball team. That said, he is generally considered a top college basketball coach, so we can expect the Aggie basketball team to bounce back.
If this does happen, it’ll make Texas A&M have one of the best coaching duos in college athletics, with each of these guys being near the top of the list in their respective sports. But the Aggies’ athletic program didn’t stop there.
On Tuesday, the Texas A&M Baseball team announced who would become their newest head coach.
The Texas A&M Baseball team just completed a 3-headed coaching monster with the signing of Jim Schlossnagle
Ross Bjork, Texas A&M’s Athletic Director, didn’t have to go far to find his baseball team’s new head coach, as Jim Schlossnagle had coached at TCU prior to his new position. He is generally considered one of the best head coaches in college baseball.
He has spent 18 seasons at TCU, guiding the Horned Frogs to unprecedented success. That said, his departure was unexpected. He is the all-time winningest head coach in TCU Baseball history with over 700 wins.
This man knows how to turn a program around too, as the TCU Baseball team had struggled before his arrival. With just two tournament appearances before he took over in Forth Worth, he guided the Horned Frogs to 15 appearances in 18 seasons. Impressive doesn’t even begin to describe it.
That said, he was never able to win a national championship, something that he may have better luck with in College Station for a program with a higher ceiling.
The signing of Schlossnagle is a great sign for a TAMU Athletic program that has seemingly done everything right in recent years. With the new head baseball coach appointed, the Aggies will be a three-sport force to be reckoned with, regardless of sport.
If Buzz Williams bounces back in 2021, there will be no way to deny the Aggies’ head coaching prowess all across the board.
