Texas A&M Football: Taking a look at the Aggies’ first 3 opponents
Texas A&M Aggies vs. New Mexico Lobos
2020 Record: 2-5
Key Players: Jerrick Reed II (S), Bobby Cole (RB), and Isaiah Chavez (QB)
Notable Stats for 2020: Averaged 393.7 Total Yards PG, Averaged 24 PPG, Defense gave up 447.3 YPG
Analysis: New Mexico is a well-balanced team but there is not much positive that I can say about this team. They seemed to get something going in the last two games of the season last year against Fresno St. and Wyoming, but three out of their five losses were by 14 or more points.
I do not think that A&M will struggle but they will need to keep their eyes on the Lobos’ quarterback. They love to run an RPO offense and if there is nothing the quarterback has no fear of taking off and running. The defense can be very aggressive and is quick in the backfield but by the third game, I have faith that the Aggies will have their offensive line read to go.
This could be a sloppy game in the first half, as I would think Jimbo will be testing different units and plays that we might not see very often. The goal should be getting the first team off and rested as fast as possible as they will be needed for the stretch of SEC games that loom on the horizon.
Score Prediction: 63-14 Texas A&M
