Implication No. 3: It’s either Haynes King, Eli Stowers, or Connor Weigman

In an odd way, Zach Calzada’s position on the Texas A&M Football team seems relatively safe. While the Aggies are chock full of dual-threat quarterbacks, Calzada is the only guy who possesses a strong arm, deep threat play style.

Why do I bring this up?

There’s only room for one of these guys. Whether it comes from the player himself, the coaching staff, or anywhere else, Hayes King, Eli Stowers, and Connor Weigman will not be happy as a backup to a player who plays similarly to them. Stowers is more of a true dual-threat, but each player listed rushed for over 500 yards in their most recent season of high school football. This will be a stark change from Kellen Mond, who didn’t leave the pocket unless it was necessary.

It’s hard to see a world where one of these guys sticks around to play second-fiddle for three seasons before stepping into the spotlight. In all likelihood, the winner of the 2022-23 quarterback competition will be the last man standing.

At the very least, Texas A&M Football fans can rest easy knowing that they’ll have four extremely talented quarterbacks competing for the starting spot next season. This offense should be in good hands.
