Texas A&M Football Overlooked Players in 2021, No. 3: DT Jayden Peevy

While we’re on the topic of experienced, overlooked defensive linemen, why not make a stop at the defensive tackle position to look at Jayden Peevy.

Peevy being overlooked makes a bit more sense than the previous player on this list. For starters, the defensive tackle position is almost always overlooked, but Peevy’s consistent production is something that should have a focus on it. In four seasons, here’s what his numbers have looked like.

  • 2017: 17 Tackles, 1 TFL, 1 Sack
  • 2018: 9 Tackles, 2 TFL, 1 Sack
  • 2019: 34 Tackles, 4 TFL, 1.5 Sack
  • 2020: 34 Tackles, 5 TFL, 1 Sack

Keep in mind when looking at these statistics that Peevy had two fewer games to pad his stats in 2020. Still, he managed to put up some of the best numbers of his career.

The main thing that strikes you when you look at those numbers is the steady improvement that Peevy has seen throughout his career. There hasn’t been a single season that drops your jaw to the floor, but he has consistently managed to up his game year by year.

There is no reason to believe that he won’t do the very same in 2021. If not for the expected emergence of DeMarvin Leal, we’d likely be talking about Peevy as an All-SEC candidate.
