What is the Alabama vs. Texas A&M football series record?
The Texas A&M football team will look to make the 2021 season worth their while on Saturday, taking on one of the greatest dynasties in the history of college football in the Alabama Crimson Tide. Nick Saban’s team is — prepare yourself for a shocking reveal — ranked first in the country in the AP Poll.
They are led by — hold your breath for another shocking reveal — a Heisman favorite at the quarterback position in Bryce Young.
The only surprise about this matchup comes in that the game isn’t between two top ten teams. Even though the Aggies were anticipated to be one of the best squads in the country, injuries and poor offensive play have derailed their season. They now sit outside of the top-25 looking in.
What is the Alabama vs. Texas A&M football series record?
Don’t worry — the series record between these teams isn’t as bad as you think. Just kidding, it’s terrible.
In 13 matchups between the two squads, the Crimson Tide has taken home a victory 11 times. This leaves the Aggies with just two wins, one of which happened in 1968, which means most of the people reading this were either not alive or not old enough to remember that game.
**UPDATE: After the Aggies’ upset over No. 1 Alabama, Texas A&M now has three wins against the Tide.
That said, one of the Aggies’ wins was one of the most memorable Aggie victories of all time and arguably the team’s best win of the modern era. That win happened with a two-loss Aggie football team against a top-ranked ‘Bama team. Sound familiar?
Unfortunately, that is virtually the full extent of the comparison here. While this year’s team is highlighted by a great defense and a terrible offense, the 2012 team was headlined by eventual Heisman winner Johnny Manziel and an unstoppable offense.
Since this monumental upset, the Aggies have played the Tide eight times, losing each game. Six of these games were decided by 18 points or more.
That said, the Texas A&M football team has kept it close against ‘Bama more recently, losing by a single score in 2017, the last year of Kevin Sumlin’s tenure as head coach. The reason that I bring this up is to give Aggie fans hope.
In that contest, the Tide beat Texas A&M 27-19, with the Aggies hanging around for the entirety of the contest. For context, that Aggie football team finished at just 7-6 on the year and looked even worse than this year’s team. That year’s Alabama team went on to win the national championship.
It may seem out of reach, but Texas A&M has (kind of) had Alabama’s number — at least more than most SEC teams.
