The Texas A&M football team secured a signature commitment for the 2022 class earlier this week when Walter Nolen committed to play in Aggieland. The five-star top-overall prospect in the 2022 class is the highest commitment in Texas A&M history, beating out Myles Garrett.

Jimbo Fisher’s 2022 class is quickly becoming one of the best in Aggie history and arguably the best of his career. And he’s not done yet.

Fisher looks like he’s on track to pull in another five-star recruit. This time, he’s looking at an in-state skill position player who is considered the best at his position in the entire country. That player is Evan Stewart.

A commitment from 2022 WR Evan Stewart would vault this Texas A&M football class to legendary status

Stewart is a five-star wide receiver and could make the argument for being the best player in his class. Via 247Sports Composite, Stewart is the top overall receiver in his class and the third-best player of any position. He sits one spot behind Walter Nolen.

A commitment from Stewart would give Texas A&M the best class in the country. I’m not sure if this would be supported by 247Sports’ recruiting rankings, but it would be undeniable. This would give A&M three five-star recruits, two of which are in the top three.

Stewart’s addition would also be huge for an Aggie receiving corps that has been disjointed in 2021. That said, there’s still a lot of talent on the current roster. If Stewart does commit to the Aggies, he’ll have some healthy competition in his freshman season.

What kind of player is he?

Stewart is known for his elite athleticism, as he also does track and field. If Aggie fans have learned anything from Devon Achane, a track athlete and football player at A&M, it’s the concept that football and track do tend to mix well. At 6-0 and 175 pounds, he possesses a quickness that can be hard to find in speedy receivers.

Here’s a small excerpt about him written by Gabe Brooks, a 247Sports Recruiting Analyst.

"Capable of lining up outside or in the slot. Also a possible return game option. Twitchy off the line and gets on top of corners quickly. Not only a linear burner, but flashes impressive lateral suddenness with make-you-miss open-field athleticism. Because of that, should own a high ceiling as a route runner, especially since leveraging DBs into breaks is not an issue. Willing to go get it in traffic with springy elevating burst."

The 2022 Aggie target isn’t just smoke and mirrors — he’s the real deal. With a couple of big recruits already committed, Texas A&M should have the resources to persuade him to come to Aggieland.

On Wednesday, two experts put in Crystal Balls for Stewart to commit to Texas A&M.

This would be Texas A&M’s second-best recruit of all time. If not for Nolen’s commitment, he would have been the highest-rated of all time in College Station.
