The Texas A&M football team is recruiting at an elite level. Even though the results haven’t necessarily been where many anticipated on the field in 2021, Jimbo Fisher is making sure that his team is prepped to play winning football down the road.

This much is evident by the fact that every full Fisher-recruited class has landed in the top ten of 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, with the 2022 class looking like it could be his best yet.

This class received a huge boost last week when arguably the best prospect in the entire 2022 class committed to play football in Aggieland. That commitment came from five-star top-overall defensive lineman Walter Nolen. A&M is still moving in the right direction, too.

Why did this Texas A&M football commit laugh on his visit to the University of Texas?

One of Texas A&M’s top remaining targets in the 2022 cycle is a five-star linebacker out of Cypress, Texas. The Aggie target is also being heavily recruited by in-state rival Texas, who recently suffered from an extremely ugly loss.

That loss gave the Kansas Jayhawks their second win of the season in a 57-56 victory over the Longhorns in Austin. It was one of the most embarrassing losses for any team this season and not the kind of game that you want top in-state recruits to watch. Unfortunately for the Longhorns, they gave one of their top remaining prospects a free front-row seat to the game.

Here’s a video of that visit.

If you’re confused due to a lack of context, here’s a little explanation of what’s going on there. In short, the Texas Longhorns lost on a game-winning two-point conversion by Kansas that you saw in that play. It moved Texas down to 4-6 on the season and Kansas up to 2-8.

Recording the video is five-star prospect Harold Perkins who, as you can hear, is laughing alongside another four-star recruit as the Texas Longhorns take a loss. Texas A&M was already a heavy lean to land Perkins, but this may have guaranteed that the Longhorns don’t stand a chance. Somehow, a visit to Austin makes the Aggies seem like even more of a frontrunner than they already were.

Perkins is a 6’2.5″, 210-pound linebacker prospect with two crystal balls for Texas A&M. 247Sports described Perkins as “probably the most sought-after linebacker in the Lone Star State since Malik Jefferson.”

The Aggies landing Perkins would be huge for a defense that has consistently been among the best in the nation under Mike Elko. As things stand, this race looks like it is between Texas A&M and LSU. Heck, even Michigan State, who offered Perkins within the past three weeks, seems like they have a better shot at landing the five-star LB.

The Aggies’ 2022 class would be vaulted to legendary status with this one.
