The Texas A&M football team has been on fire when it comes to recruiting. To be honest, it’s been difficult to focus on any players that aren’t five-star recruits, as Jimbo Fisher has secured commitments from two of the top three players in the entire class within the past 30 days.

But not everything is about stars. Johnny Manziel only had three stars to his name in high school, while current stars like Chase Lane and Ainias Smith were low-rated three-star prospects. There is value in players that aren’t initially the top-rated guys in their class.

Right now, the Texas A&M football team is going after one of these players.

The Texas A&M football team has entered a familiar recruiting battle for top-100 prospect Kam Dewberry

It almost seems ridiculous to refer to Kam Dewberry as a potential diamond in the rough — after all, he’s the third-ranked interior offensive lineman in his class and a top-100 prospect. He’s a top-15 prospect among all positions in the state of Texas and a high-priority recruit for any college football program that wants to win.

Dewberry is a star and it’s clear that he’s being treated as such by the Aggies’ coaching staff, as A&M is currently considered a frontrunner in his recruitment.

Dewberry is a 6’4″, 313-point offensive lineman out of Humble, Texas, with offers from Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, Ohio State… basically everybody. After a year of instability on the offensive line, he will be a huge target for Jimbo Fisher in this cycle.

As recently as Thursday evening, Dewberry narrowed down his top schools to just three names — Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma. Sound familiar?

The Aggies find themselves battling it out with the Longhorns and Sooners frequently. This time around, they might have an advantage. Oklahoma does not currently have a head coach, making their claim to Dewberry weakened. Texas has a coach, but he just led his team to a 5-7 record, including a 3-6 conference record.

That said, it’s college football — nothing is guaranteed. A&M will hope that this monster of an offensive lineman commits to play in Aggieland but they’ve got a bit of work to do. As shown in his commitment graphic, Dewberry plans to commit on December 15th, the first day of college football’s early signing period.
