The Texas A&M football team will have a couple of breakout candidates at the runningback position

The runningback position will be one of the most exciting ones in 2022. The Aggies are long long-time starter Isaiah Spiller to the NFL Draft, so Aggie fans will have to become accustomed to seeing a couple of other names.

The first and most obvious name is Devon Achane, Texas A&M’s second option in 2021. In fact, by the end of the season, Achane was virtually splitting carries with Spiller at a 50:50 ratio. In 2022, the starting spot will be his.

That said, Achane won’t be the only ball-carrier next season. As per usual, Jimbo Fisher will likely start giving reps to the next guy in line, which should be sophomore LJ Johnson. Johnson was technically the third option for A&M last year, rushing the ball 21 times. He never really got going, averaging just 3.6 yards per carry but could benefit from playing alongside a speedy back like Achane.

Amari Daniels, another sophomore runningback, could also step into this role. Heck, even incoming freshman Le’Veon Moss could see some time in this backfield. Much like the tight end position, this one looks wide open right now.
