It’s the offseason, which means that Texas A&M football fans will have to keep their focus off of the field for a while. Until the Maroon and White Spring Game on April 9th, there will be no football to watch. That, however, does not imply that there is a lack of action.

That action can be something as simple as a meaningless 64-team bracket that saw the Aggies earn a 2 seed and as important as a new commitment. This week, one of the biggest stories surrounding Aggie football was regarding a mega-contract that was signed by a former player.

That former player is Christian Kirk, who may have contributed to big changes to the financial landscape of the NFL. During his three-year college career, Kirk accumulated 2,856 yards and 26 touchdowns on 234 receptions. Notably, Kirk also put together an impressive return resume, taking back six punts and a single kickoff for touchdowns.

While some think this is a “major overpay,” according to The NY Post, it’s more likely that this is a sign of the times to come.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are making sure they secure a guy with a strong, consistent resume for the long term. With more than a handful of receivers opting not to play during their franchise stag year, the Jags likely wanted Kirk to know that he’s a priority.

Kirk is coming off of a season that saw him fall just short of the 1,000-yard mark, pulling in 984 yards through the air. Kirk caught just five touchdown passes, falling short of his total from a year ago (6).

In his NFL career, Kirk has put together a resume in four short years that includes 2,902 yards and 17 touchdowns. With 236 receptions, Kirk has only fumbled the ball once.
