Just a day after the Texas A&M basketball team suffered a heartbreaking loss, the Texas A&M football team did the polar opposite — a glorious victory. This victory, however, did not come on the field. Instead, the Aggies got another recruiting win in a 2022 class that didn’t seem like it could have gotten much better.
It did.
On Friday, Jimbo Fisher secured a commitment that virtually nobody saw coming. That commitment goes by the name of Lebbeus Overton, another five-star defensive lineman in the 2022 class.
It didn’t seem possible but the Texas A&M football team’s 2022 class somehow became even better
Originally, Lebbeus Overton began as a player who could bolster the Texas A&M football team’s 2023 class. The Aggie commit reclassified two months ago and remained on Jimbo Fisher’s radar as a 2022 prospect despite an already-loaded class.
Overton is a 6’4.5″, 265-pound defensive lineman out of Alpharetta, Georgia. The recent Aggie commit was also considering schools like Oklahoma, Oregon, and Georgia. He chose Texas A&M.
Oh, and his commitment just broke another record.
The Aggies now have eight five-star commits in their 2022 class, breaking the previous record (according to 247Sports) of seven which was set by multiple teams. Here is the full list of five-star commitments who will be playing for the Texas A&M football team in the fall.
Enrolled:
- WR Evan Stewart
- DL Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy
- QB Conner Weigman
- CB Denver Harris
Signed Letter of Intent
- DL Walter Nolen
- DL Shemar Stewart
- DL Lebbeus Overton
- WR Chris Marshall
As you can see, the Texas A&M football team is reloading the defensive line, where Jimbo Fisher lost four key contributors after the 2021 season. He’ll use his four five-star commits at that position to fill in the gaps.
Texas A&M’s eight five-star commits gives them nearly a quarter of the five-star prospects in the 2022 class — there are only 34 total.
In all likelihood, this will round out the Aggies 2022 class. It’s also important to keep in mind that Overton was originally in the 2023 class. If the Aggies 2023 cycle seems a bit behind, Fisher will either have to find a new player to replace him or will simply live on with him being in the system a year earlier.
