Texas A&M Football: Where did the Aggies rank in the first coaches’ poll?
Now that Texas A&M football training camp is underway, that means that ranking season is over. Right? Wrong. In fact, it is just beginning.
Also in fact, it is becoming more official as well. Monday around noon, USA Today released the AFCA Coaches Poll for the preseason. This is a poll where a group of NCAA coaches, that can change each week, give their own top 25 teams. There is an inverted point system in place, which ranks teams from 1-25 by how many points they received.
NCAA coaches seem to be pretty high on Texas A&M Football, ranking them in the top 10 of their first coaches’ poll.
In the first edition of the poll, the Aggies are ranked 7th in the country by coaches. They received 1219 points, just 13 points less than 6th-ranked Michigan. They are ahead of 8th-ranked Utah by almost 80 points, so Texas A&M is firmly in the top 7 in coaches’ eyes.
There are currently five SEC teams featured in the coaches’ poll. By no surprise, Alabama resides in first, with 1634 points and 54 first-place votes. Georgia rolls in at third with 1542 points and 6 first-place votes. Arkansas comes in at 23rd with 334 points, and Ole Miss is at 24th with 327 points. Every other SEC team received at least one point except for Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Missouri.
The ranking that was given to the Aggies just goes to show how talented this roster is from top to bottom. Despite the question at quarterback, even other coaches seem confident that Coach Fisher will elevate this team even higher given his recent recruiting hauls and players ready to take the next step in their development.
