Texas A&M Football: Aggies’ CFP dreams depend on great QB play
Texas A&M football has built a winning culture with high hopes of making the College football playoffs, but how can they get there with the QB1 situation? As we near the start of the college football season, there are high hopes and expectations in Aggieland. As the season gets closer, follow along with me to discuss what is key for Texas A&M football to make their playoff dreams a reality.
Texas A&M Football’s playoff dreams ride on quarterback play
Whether the offense is led by Haynes King, Max Johnson, or Conner Weigman, A&M needs a quarterback that raises the bar and can be the engine that ignites the offense. The quarterback needs to be able to make great reads and accurate throws, which can be easier said than done in Fisher’s pro-style offense.
With excitement about a more explosive offense, it all begins with the QB. Coach Fisher has to make the right decision and find the right guy to run his offense. He has three quality candidates to choose from. Riding on this decision is going to be Texas A&M’s dreams of making the College Football Playoffs. They need a game changer and playmaker at quarterback to carry the Aggies to the promise land this fall.
There have been rumblings that King has looked really good in practice this fall. It would be no surprise to see Coach Fisher hand King the ball to start the season at quarterback. The redshirt sophomore will need to make sure that he protects the ball and does not commit turnovers to prove he is the guy for the job.
King has the upper hand when it comes to knowledge of Texas A&M’s offense from being with the program longer than Johnson and Weigman. Fisher knows he has talent in the QB room. He will have to guide them and make tough decisions if the initial starter struggles. How Jimbo handles the quarterback competition will be the most crucial and important key to setting the Aggies on a path to the College Football Playoffs.
Other keys that are crucial for Texas A&M football to make the playoffs:
