Texas A&M football has to have a disruptive defense

The other part of winning impressively is having a defense that limits the opposing team’s offense. In 2020 when the Aggies almost made the playoffs, they were a top-10 defense in the country. The defense limited their opponents to 21.7 points per game, 2nd in rushing defense at 92 yards per game and 56th in pass defense, limiting opponents to 225.3 yards per game.

Last year, Texas A&M was fourth in the country, limiting their opponents to 17.1 points per game. The Aggies were 30th in rushing defense, allowing 134.2 yards per game and 32nd in pass defense, limiting opponents to 209.5 yards per game. Overall, Texas A&M improved defensively from 2020 to 2021 and will need to keep this momentum going into 2022 if they are going to make a run at the College Football Playoffs.

D.J Durkin is thought to be more aggressive than an Elko-lead defense. The Aggies are looking forward to more blitz packages and generating more turnovers this fall.  If it all comes together, A&M is due for an exciting defense. Hopefully the Aggies can be a disruptive defensive group that paves a way to the College Football Playoffs.
