Texas A&M Football: Predicting Devon Achane’s season statline for 2022
Budding star running back Devon Achane is expected to be the focal point of the offense for Texas A&M football in 2022. He has been the second fiddle to NFL running back Isaiah Spiller for a couple years, but now he gets his chance to shine.
It comes as no surprise to Aggie fans that Achane has these high expectations. He has been on the receiving end of many preseason honors, and they are well deserved. Over his collegiate career, the junior has averaged an incredible 7.4 yards per carry over 173 rushing attempts.
He not only does great work on the ground, but he’s also very effective in the passing game. In his career, Achane has caught 29 passes for 358 yards and two touchdowns. He has become a staple of this offense since even his freshman season, and now he gets to step into a RB1 role in which he should flourish.

Devon Achane should be given a fair amount of run in the first two games of the season despite them being against much lesser teams. It will be good to ensure he is warmed up for a ranked matchup against Miami. Despite gaining less than 50 rushing yards in Week 3, I think it was a good time to point out how he can effect the passing game as well.
In a revenge game against Arkansas, I expect Achane to absolutely explode. Arkansas’ front four leaves much to be desired, so I expect him to be able to gain big chunks throughout the game. I believe the only match where he will struggle is against top-ranked Alabama. If there’s any game where he is shut down, it will be that one.
After Week 6, I expect Achane to rip off big game after big game for the rest of the season. He should have no trouble bouncing back after struggling against Bama, and he could make a Heisman case with a long streak of great games to finish the season.
Achane should have a big season. In this exercise, he finishes with over 1,400 yards from scrimmage which is more than doable for him. Assuming he doesn’t have any issues carrying an increased workload, he should be a frontrunner for the Doak Walker award and a potential Heisman candidate by December.
