Texas A&M football gets its season started this Saturday against a Sam Houston State team they havenโ€™t faced since 2013. The Aggies now have everything in place, from their starting quarterback, no injuries of note, and everyone is looking good.

Fans are excited and they should be. A lot of eyes are on College Station this season with the Aggies looking like a key contender for a playoff spot. Being ranked in the top-6 by AP poll voters should not be taken likely.

Texas A&M can begin to prove those voters right with a Week 1 home win against a rising Bearkat team. The team should be going at full force in Week 1 and looking to get their team comfortable within a game atmosphere due to having inexperience at some positions.

History

Over the history of matchups between Texas A&M and Sam Houston State, it has been very lopsided to say the least. In 12 games against the Bearkats, the Aggies have won all 12 while averaging over 48 points per game.

In the recent past, the Bearkats have put up points against the Aggie defense. In 2012 and 2013, they scored 28 points in each game. However, the Texas A&M offense has had no problem running up the score, outscoring them 112-56 over the past two meetings.

For recent context, Sam Houston State has been very successful, most recently winning an FCS championship in 2020. They are currently in the process of moving to Conference USA in the FBS, which should be finalized next season. They are nothing to scoff at, as they have dominated the FCS landscape for years.
