Duds

Texas A&M football HC Jimbo Fisher

The loss to Appalachian State is one of Texas A&M’s worst losses in history. With a team full of four and five-stars, it is unacceptable. This loss falls squarely on head coach Jimbo Fisher’s shoulders as he did not have the team prepared to play and his offensive calling was very stagnant, at best.

Jimbo was simply outcoached by Appalachian State. With such a talented advantage the Aggies should never have to worry about losing to such an inferior team. This is a stain on Jimbo Fisher’s resume that will frustrate A&M fans for years to come.

This game was very lop-sided and Appalachian State ran 82 plays to the Aggies’ 38. The Mountaineers had 181 yards rushing to A&M’s 89 yards, and 134 yards passing to A&M’s 97 yards. With less than 200 yards of offense and Jimbo, the master mind of the offense and play caller, this stale and stagnate offense is 100% his fault.

Hot seat talk is starting to swirl on social media with such a disappointing loss in year five of the head coach’s tenure. Jimbo needs to prove he knows how to coach next week vs the Maimi Hurricanes or the Aggie faithful’s will quickly be questioning if Jimbo is the man for the job.

QB Haynes King

Passing the ball was a struggle on Saturday and it was not all King’s fault. The offensive line struggled to keep the pocket clean for the quarterback. The play calling was terrible and the execution was even worse.

King did not do himself any favors with a fumble and constantly throwing behind the wide receivers. There were several opportunities for big plays with wide receivers open downfield with plenty of green space in front of them but Haynes King could not hit them in stride.

Is King the quarterback going forward next week versus Miami? This will be a decision that Fisher will have to make. Max Johnson could potentially be entering the lineup since what we have seen from King has been underwhelming. At the end of the day the Aggies need to win and the offense needs to show signs of life, especially with all of the talent that has been accumulated.

K Caden Davis

The Aggies loss to Appalachian State is far from Caden Davis’ fault. He should have never been put in a position to need a field goal to keep their hope alive. However, with the clock winding down in the fourth quarter and the Aggies needing a field goal to tie, Davis missed a 47-yard field goal. This all but sealed the deal for the Mountaineers. They were then able to run the last three minutes off the clock to defeat the Aggies.

Next week the Aggies take on Maimi at 8 p.m at Kyle Field and all eyes will be watching to see if the Aggies can bounce back. A loss could derail the Aggies season. A win could give them the spark to take on the SEC and surprise the people that wrote them off with the loss to Appalachian State.
