It’s no secret how bad Texas A&M football looked on Saturday, and neither is how bad the offense looked. However, the front line of the offense might’ve looked the worst out of everyone; the offensive line.

On Saturday, the starting unit consisted of those you might expect. At the left tackle spot, was redshirt freshman Trey Zuhn III. At left guard, Aki Ogunbiyi held his spot, and at center, was Matthew Wykoff. On the right side of the line, at guard was All-Conference lineman Layden Robinson, and at tackle was Reuben Fatheree II.

To say the least, the offensive line play has been…okay, it hasn’t been good. The pass protection was actually great on Saturday. They, as a unit, allowed just three pressures and one quarterback hit. The main issue so far has been the run blocking.

Obviously, the run blocking was not good in Week 1, as the Aggies could get nothing going on the ground. In Week 2, it was a bit better, but a chunk of the 66 rushing yards (by running backs) was from one run by star running back Devon Achane. The fact of the matter is, the line just doesn’t give any push. A lot of the work is done by the running backs, and it hasn’t worked because they’re not Derrick Henry.

There is, however, a great positive about the future of this line: they will be getting Bryce Foster back against Miami. This doesn’t necessarily mean he will start, but it does sound like he will either split snaps with Wykoff, or they will even play alongside each other — one at center and one at left guard.

Last season, Foster started every game for the Aggies and had a good year, good enough to even be named an All-SEC Freshman. He should bring more juice to the line and maybe even help resolve some run blocking issues along the interior. This is a great sign for the offensive line and the offense as a whole, as Foster should be ready to go for Saturday against Miami.
