Conner Weigman will burst onto the scene

It’s not often your first two quarterbacks go down with injury and the majority of the fan opinions surrounding the position is that the team will actually get better play at that signal-caller spot.  That is, however, exactly where this Texas A&M football team has found itself.  Even from the beginning of fall camp, there was a strong movement among the fans for Weigman to get the starting nod.  Instead, it was King, then Johnson, then King again before Conner finally got his shot late against South Carolina.  While he obviously was unable to lead the team to a comeback win, he definitely showed flashes in the limited time he had.

Conner was stepping up in the pocket, hitting receivers in stride, and being decisive: all traits that we have seen far too little of with the other two QBs.  He may not be as experienced in the offense, but he is clearly the most talented of the group by far.

With his third week or so of running with the first team offense and anticipating a start, Weigman will look even better in front of this home crowd at Kyle Field.  He’ll hit receivers in stride, roll out and throw some darts, and generally just sling it.  By all accounts, the team has been locked in this week at practice following the post-South Carolina drama.  I expect the QB position, even absent stellar OL play (as it seems that ship has sailed for this season), to look markedly better than it has thus far this year.
