Ole Miss won’t be able to stop this Texas A&M football team’s run game

It’s no secret that Devon Achane is key to this team’s success.  One of the most dynamic backs in the country, Achane is a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball.  He’ll have to have a big game for A&M to have a shot against the 15th-ranked Rebels.

Ole Miss, however, has shown a tendency to give up a good amount of yardage on the ground.  For the season, the Rebels give up just over 98% of opponent YPC averages— a somewhat lackluster mark, made even worse by the fact that their schedule has been so poor thus far.  In their last two games against SEC competition, they gave up 136% and 110% of opponent rushing averages (to Auburn and LSU, respectively).  They’re middle of the pack in rushing defensive success rate (a measure of down-to-down efficiency) in the SEC, with 44% of rushing plays they’ve defended being successful, and second-to-last in the SEC in % of opponent success rate allowed overall, meaning teams tend to be more successful against Ole Miss than their average coming into the game.

Coming in with a dynamic running QB, albeit one that may be hesitant to run given the lack of depth behind him, and an even more dynamic RB, this Aggie run game will test the Rebels, and I feel like the Aggies will break them, following in the example of LSU last week.  Conner Weigman and Devon Achane will each score a rushing touchdown en route to a big game on the ground for the Aggies.
