Texas A&M Football Adds DB Via Portal; Looks to Add Even MoreIf form holds, the 2024 Texas A&M football team may end up looking far different than they did in 2023, at least on the back end of the defense. After starting corners Tyreek Chappell and Deuce Harmon entered the portal (though Harmon, at least, appears to be open to a return), the Aggies were in dire need of reinforcements on the back end of their defense.

Those reinforcements have arrived in part, as cornerback Will Lee, formerly of Kansas State, has committed to Texas A&M football. Lee is the second member of the Wildcats to head down to College Station, following offensive coordinator Collin Klein who accepted the same position with the Aggies last week.

Lee is a tall, rangy cornerback with great speed and one on one coverage ability. He has two years of eligibility remaining and is likely to step right into a starting role.

Lee is a huge pickup for the Aggies, and hopefully the aggressive approach the new Texas A&M football staff is taking towards the portal will continue to pay off. The Aggies certainly hope so, as Lee was not the only portal visitor this past weekend: South Alabama WR Caullin Lacy made his way to campus, as did Old Dominion WR Javon Harvey.

Next weekend, too, the Aggies will host another defensive back in Oregon State’s Jermod McCoy. McCoy is originally from the state of Texas and put together a solid year up in Corvallis. To have him starting across from Lee in the defensive backfield next year would go a long way towards fixing some of the prospective worries that Aggie fans have had about the 2024 pass defense.

Overall, the early returns on Elko’s approach to the portal are extremely positive. Let’s hope the Aggies keep this momentum going as early signing day approaches.
