Texas A&M fans were overjoyed and extremely confident following a recent announcement from five-star DT Lamar Brown, one of A&M's premier targets in the entire cycle, that he would not be visiting the hometown LSU Tigers. Brown, who hails from Baton Rouge, was coming off of a visit to College Station, so this seemed like extremely good news for the Aggies.
However, that overjoyment was recently stymied after a follow up announcement from the recruiting services. Brown, who had so recently proclaimed that he would not be visiting the Tigers, has doubled back on those intentions, and now will be making the trip this weekend after all.
This isn't entirely shocking, given the fickle nature of recruiting in general, and the chokehold that LSU generally has high-level Louisiana prospects in. So from one perspective, it makes sense. But that hasn't stopped Aggie fans from descending into argument over this ordeal.
Aggie fans on edge after Lamar Brown decides to change course and visit LSU
This certainly isn't a positive sign for the Aggies. That does not mean, however, that it means that everything is lost on this front, either.
It's easy to begin naysaying when it comes to recruiting, given the relative opacity of the process and how many mental gymnastics are therefore done by those on the fan side of things. So when things like this happen, fans have to match it to patterns they've seen in the past, and will generally come to disparate conclusions.
All we know right now is that he is simply keeping his original schedule. This doesn't mean he's cooled on the Aggies at all, but maybe the post-visit high had him thinking that he might as well shut the process down at that moment. He obviously didn't, and now will take another visit.
Again, that's not the end of the world, as much as some would like to believe otherwise. This recruitment was always going to be a long play, and that much remains clear at this point. For now, Aggie fans will have to weather what will no doubt be plenty of photos and videos from the visit to come next weekend, and hope that Brown sticks with where the momentum currently seems to be pointing.
