Texas A&M fans have watched with dismay as the recruiting information ecosystem has begun to move their eyes to Austin for one of the top-rated running backs in the cycle, Landen Williams-Callis. Where the Aggies seemed like the team to beat for quite some time in this one, there has been a lot of buzz around the Longhorns in the last few weeks.
Texas A&M fans have learned never to doubt Trooper Taylor in these situations, of course, but it’s hard to ignore that all the signals are pointing away from the Maroon and White right now, as many insiders have given more credence to SMU and Houston’s chances with the productive back out of Richmond Randle. Texas A&M has quite a deep stable of backs, which other schools are no doubt using against them, but this is a scheme that a lot of running backs would like to play in.
If Williams-Callis does not end up in maroon and white, of course, the Aggies would rather him go anywhere except for to Texas— after all, they don’t have to play these other teams year in and year out, not to mention the rivalry aspect. But doubt just got thrown on everything that recruiting insiders have been saying about this recruitment when the man himself took to X to answer back to a recent report that he was trending towards Austin.
Landen Williams-Callis shuts down “complete lie” about trending towards Austin, giving Aggie fans a shot of hope
Williams-Callis had no time for this report about where he was apparently trending in his recruitment, letting the world know in no uncertain terms what he thought of this recent intel.
I never talked to you or anybody from rivals, this is a complete lie 💯 https://t.co/5FVRsfReBh

It doesn’t help that they misspelled his name down in the graphic, either.
This is at least good for a laugh— you can see all the Texas fans very eager to distance themselves from this report in the comments, though they would have been celebrating the report otherwise— but it reinforces the fact that there’s a lot about this recruitment that has been hard to figure out. That dulls the impact of the apparent intel that has been moving towards Austin in this recruitment, though we can’t rule it out completely.
And again, this is only denying a specific report, not necessarily crediting the Aggies with the momentum here— in other words, while this is at least slightly good news, it’s not very good news. Following this recruitment will no doubt have a few more twists and turns to go before things all shake out, so fans should be watching closely to see what happens with the productive RB from Richmond.
