Longtime Texas A&M safety Bryce Anderson has announced his intention to enter the transfer portal after four years in College Station, where he has been a starter from day one. Anderson will look to head elsewhere after spending most of the year on the bench for Texas A&M, preserving his redshirt following a brutal injury against Notre Dame in game three.

Anderson has totaled 117 tackles, 6 pass deflections and 2 interceptions in his career. https://t.co/NGzHmurcCz pic.twitter.com/cuVmxkn0Gh
This really should not come as a massive surprise to Texas A&M fans, of course, given that Anderson sat out the end of the season to preserve his redshirt. That was a flashing warning light right there that he was looking to possibly end up somewhere else when all was said and done.
The Aggies will return both Dalton Brooks and Marcus Ratcliffe if neither opt to go to the NFL draft, but behind them, there's precious little experience at the safety spot, leading Aggie fans to wonder if this coaching staff will be going big in the portal, or if a guy like Myles Davis or Rashad Johnson will be stepping up.
Texas A&M fans should have anticipated Bryce Anderson's departure via transfer portal
Anderson was a highly-touted member of the 2022 recruiting class, which finished at no. 1 overall for the Aggies. He made an immediate impact that year, especially against Miami in game three of the season. Since then, however, he's never quite lived up to the hype he was receiving— many saw him as an Antonio Johnson-type for the Aggies, but that level of play never manifested.
Don't misunderstand— Anderson is a solid player for sure. But by the end of the year— and even last year— it became clear that Brooks and Ratcliffe were the best duo to have on the back end as starters, leaving less room for a guy like Anderson.
It will be interesting to see where Bryce ends up. His finalists were LSU, Texas, and the Aggies— I would say to watch the Tigers, but Anderson and Lane Kiffin don't exactly have a warm and fuzzy relationship. He may take the Conner Weigman path and head to somewhere like Houston— those two were pretty close, after all.
Best of luck to Bryce at his next stop. Hopefully he finds the best place for himself going forward.
