Five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews has decommitted from Texas A&M, according to reports from Steve Wiltfong and Hayes Fawcett of On3. The Aggies had held the commitment of the nation's top offensive lineman since mid-May, and had seemed to be holding strong throughout a disappointing season, but this shows that there were more cracks in the foundation there than initially thought.

Matthews was a surefire starter and potential first-round talent, so he was a huge win for the Aggies when he originally committed. That's on top of the fact that he lives about 30 minutes from Miami's campus, so to get his commitment over the Hurricanes, especially given their track record of recruiting top offensive linemen, was huge.

He had been a regular visitor to College Station and always appeared effusive and enthusiastic about the Aggies when talking about them, even up until very recently. However, it looks like other teams pressing hard for him to decommit eventually paid off, as he is now once again uncommitted.

This is a huge blow to Texas A&M's class, no doubt about it. With the exception of four-star linebacker Aston Whiteside, the Aggies had done a great job of keeping this class together so far, but falling below .500 has apparently cost them in a big way.

Matthews was the highest-rated member of the class and, as Ryan Brauninger said on X earlier, a cornerstone of the group. A&M still has one five-star offensive lineman committed in Kennedy Brown, but that's little comfort when you're losing a player as talented as Matthews.

Aggie fans have to be worried about Kaden Henderson as well, who visited Notre Dame for the Miami game this past weekend. He had originally been planning on coming to College Station for the Tennessee game this weekend, but we'll have to see if those plans remain after the way this past weekend has gone.

DeMarrion Johnson is another player who has continued to take visits elsewhere. Eric McFarland, Kamarui Dorsey, and Raylaun Henry, among others, are all highly-rated, out-of-state players who the Aggies should make sure they are keeping solidly in the class as well.

This was always a danger with the way this season has gone, but it seems unlikely that every single big name will peel off, even as bad as this feels right now. The Aggies, too, have a lot of very talented young players on campus that form the bedrock of this program going forward, so keeping things all together for these final few weekends will go a long way towards ensuring the future of this program stays bright.

This coaching staff will have their work cut out for them in a big way to keep this class together. Matthews was the biggest fish, but there are still a lot of massive names on the commit list for Texas A&M that form the future of this program— here's hoping they can keep them all together.
