Texas A&M is on impending flip alert thanks to Kaden Henderson's Notre Dame visit

This appears to be confirming some of Texas A&M's worst fears about one of their top commitments.

News broke this morning that Kaden Henderson, a five-star linebacker commitment to Texas A&M, is planning to make his way to South Bend, Indiana, this weekend to visit the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. ND's game this weekend against Miami is one of the biggest in the country, as it is the biggest test on the schedule for both teams, so this was always a worry for Aggie fans, but given the way things have gone for A&M so far this season, it's now even more so.

Texas A&M won out for Henderson's commitment somewhat unexpectedly over the summer. They were always a big player in his recruitment, but there was a lot of momentum for the Irish in the final few weeks leading up to his announcement— but a few days beforehand, the Aggies began to surge before eventually becoming the choice for Henderson on the day.

For as significant as the talent is in the secondary in this class— A&M has three five-star defensive backs on the commit list, after all— Henderson may be the most important. The Aggies have rarely had a talent like his on their team at the linebacker spot, and he is maybe the one piece that can take them to the next level as a defense.

Five-star LB commit Kaden Henderson announces visit to Notre Dame, dismaying Aggie fans

That's why it's so important for the Aggies to keep Henderson's commitment— but it's clearly going to be an uphill battle to do so. This Texas A&M staff has no doubt been spending the bye week doing a lot of recruiting, but this is still a development that has to worry coaches and fans alike.

Texas A&M has already lost a linebacker commitment to one of the teams in this matchup, as Aston Whiteside flipped to Miami a few weeks back. As I wrote then, this was a loss that the Aggies could withstand if it didn't become a trend— but now, with this development, fans are worrying that it could become just that.

Of course, apart from this visit announcement, there's not been a lot of reason so far to worry about the strength of Henderson's commitment. As a matter of fact, Jason Howell of TexAgs recently visited Tampa to catch up with him, and he made no bones about the fact that he was still a strong Aggie commitment.

He actually said in a video that he would be coming to Texas A&M the following weekend to visit for the Tennessee game. If Henderson does end up making it to South Bend this weekend, then getting him back for the contest against the Volunteers would be absolutely massive for this A&M program.

You have to expect a couple of peaks and valleys in any high-level recruitment, so even if Henderson does end up visiting Notre Dame, not all hope is lost for Texas A&M. There is a long-established relationship between Travis Williams, one of the best recruiters at the LB coach spot in the country, and Henderson, so that won't be so easily undermined.

We'll see if the Aggies can weather this storm, but I have a good feeling that they are going to be able to. In a perfect world, he doesn't even end up making the trip— but even if he does, the Aggies are still not out of it.
