Texas A&M basketball is preparing to square off against the Texas Longhorns in the SEC Tournament today in Nashville. The Aggies are solid favorites as the higher seed, but anything can happen in this tournament— much more when it's such bitter rivals facing off, as well.
The Aggies are coming into this matchup riding one of the biggest victories in school history. Last Tuesday, the Ags took down the no. 1-ranked Auburn Tigers in Reed Arena for their first-ever victory over a top-ranked squad.
Buzz Williams has now led the Ags to program firsts with wins over both no. 1-ranked and no. 2-ranked teams, which A&M had never done before his tenure. Despite all of the consternation about Buzz at times, it will be hard to say that he is not one of the best coaches in program history when all is said and done.
According to one Texas writer, though, the time for that referendum may be coming sooner rather than later.
Texas beat writer predicts Buzz Williams will not return to Texas A&M basketball next season
Kirk Bohls, a longtime beat writer for Texas who has previously worked at the Austin American-Statesman but is now with the Houston Chronicle, had an eye-catching prediction about Buzz Williams in a recent article.
Bohls calling his shot but honestly I don’t see this as being crazy at all considering Buzz hasn’t recruited a team for next season https://t.co/vB89mc1E4m pic.twitter.com/my5hrUTUqv

Bohls contends that this season will be Williams's last on the sidelines for the maroon and white— and honestly, it's not that ridiculous of a prediction.
This is the last chapter for this core group, so continuing on would mean committing to what is essentially a rebuild in College Station. If retirement or any other kind of departure is on the mind, this would be the prime time to exit.
As the tweet above mentions, there's not a lot of recruiting that has been done for next year, though the Aggies do indeed have a couple of commitments. That's less relevant in this day of the transfer portal, but it still matters a whole lot.
So could this really be the end for Buzz Williams? I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see it go that way. If so, though, he needs to be given his flowers— and he's earned quite a lot.
