Texas A&M basketball fans sniping back and forth with announcer Tom Hart after seemingly biased announcing

There was a lot that went badly for Texas A&M basketball fans on Saturday. Not only did they have to endure a gut-wrenching collapse against the rival Longhorns, but the Texas coach was sure to rub it in after the fact— in a way that many fans found quite hypocritical.

All of that is one thing, though. In sports, sometimes you're on the wrong end of these results. You expect a big win to get a coach jazzed up to some degree after a win like that, too, and sometimes they act a little foolishly.

But what most Aggie fans found so jarring and objectionable was the way in which the Aggies were being spoken of on the broadcast. A&M fans were galled by the way that the announcer, Tom Hart, was talking about the Aggies on the broadcast.

The first thing that got A&M fans' ears perked up was the way Hart relayed an anecdote of Rodney Terry, the Texas coach, essentially saying that the Aggies' team would be playing harder against them since the roster was jealous that they didn't get recruited to come to Austin.

Not only that, but he mentioned that Buzz Williams once interviewed to be an assistant in Austin, didn't get the job, and was "by some accounts," crushed.

This quote from Hart was what really set fans off, however.

Hart, for his part, stood by what he had to say, engaging with Aggie fans on X.

Hart's explanation of the quote was that it was a compliment to the Aggie players, who despite poor shooting percentages, continue to play with confidence— so even though they stand a relatively poor chance of making many of the shots, they don't get shaken.

I personally like Hart's work and was listening to the radio call during the game, so I'm probably not as affected as some Aggie fans were by this commentary. But clearly there is a large number of A&M faithful that don't want much to do with Hart after this incident, explanation or no.

It's possible this all blows over very quickly. Hart is one of the top broadcasters on the SEC Network for football, and does a lot for the conference in basketball as well. However, the outcry is rather large at this point, so it could be a while before this grudge is forgotten.
