Auburn is still crying about the loss to Oklahoma instead of focusing on Texas A&M

The Aggies may not be playing against the most locked-in team this Saturday.

Texas A&M fans know what it's like to have a bad call go against your team in such a way that it ends up deciding a game for the opponent. Look no further than 2014 LSU— or 2021 LSU, for that matter— to see games in which the Aggie faithful feel like they got jobbed by the referees.

Their opponent for this weekend, the Auburn Tigers, are right smack dab in the middle of such a controversy. In last week's game, Oklahoma scored a touchdown on an illegal play, and none of the referees decided to flag the play.

Days later, though, with the upcoming game against the Aggies drawing ever nearer, Auburn has decided that— instead of moving on and focusing on A&M— they are still hung up on the Oklahoma game. Their athletic director, John Cohen, issued a statement just yesterday, saying... that they don't like what happened?

Auburn still complaining about Oklahoma loss instead of focusing attention on Texas A&M

As you can see in this statement, the vibes are positively rancid on the Plains:

I'm mystified by what they thought such a statement would accomplish, as were many who saw this tweet go out. This is not something that is going to go back in time and take away an OU touchdown. Did the AD just feel like he had to say something? If so, why wait so long?

Of course, there's nothing that the Aggies would like more than for Auburn to be completely preoccupied with what happened last week, while neglecting proper mental preparation for the environment in College Station this weekend. Mike Elko has demurred when asked about how it might affect the Tigers, demonstrating that this Aggie team will be ready without a doubt— but the same can't be said for Freeze's Tigers.

We'll see just how prepared each team is when toe meets leather on Saturday, but I'd be worried if I were an Auburn fan right about now. This could be spelling disaster for the Tigers before the game has even kicked off.
