TCU's leading scorer has entered the transfer portal, and he may be the perfect replacement for Rashaun Agee. It's big shoes to fill, but monster interior rebounding will be missed next season without Agee, and Bucky McMillan just found the perfect answer.
David Punch led the Horned Frogs in scoring with 14.9 points per game. Rebounding wasn't bad either, averaging 6.8 per game, and also averaged 1.9 blocks per game.
The 6-foot-7 forward out of Harker Heights once played basketball less than two hours away from College Station. In Bucky McMillan's second season, this would be the dream transfer that he could ask for.
Bucky McMillan has to look at former TCU forward David Punch in the portal
The portal is heating up, and you can bet McMillan is one of the busiest guys in College Station now. Punch is one of those guys who can go to work in the low block and get you an automatic bucket.
Not to say that A&M wasn't full of automatic bucket-getters all season long, but whoever will land Punch and his confidence will be lucky, to say the least. Agee was a dominant interior threat who could battle for rebounds. Punch is that same guy, except he embraces contact and makes shots when you need him to.
Agee led the team in scoring and rebounds, and it's not easy to replace him, but when you get a guy like Punch, it's much easier to think about. Fans can never really think about "replacing" anyone, but Agee contributed a ton, and his physical presence will be missed.
It's not like Punch living in Fort Worth was super far anyway, but McMillan has a clear advantage here. His hometown is much closer to College Station than Fort Worth.
With Agee, Rylan Griffen, Josh Holloway and Ruben Dominguez not returning next season, Texas A&M will look vastly different. But the Ags still have tons of talent to turn to, and Punch is a name that McMillan has to be looking at this offseason.
