Texas A&M's idle weekend didn't do any favors, and in fact, the picture looks worse than it did just a few days ago when the bracket had them play against Notre Dame.
Texas A&M will play Miami in a day game on Saturday, December 20. Lots of fans won't be happy about that, but that's another story. The story here -- Texas A&M clearly has the toughest road to the College Football Playoff, and it doesn't take a village to realize that.
If they beat Miami, they have to play the defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes in a quarterfinal, only to potentially play Georgia in the semifinal. The Aggies got the short end of the stick, and fans shouldn't be happy at all.
Texas A&M got Miami while Ole Miss gets to play Tulane
All the metrics have Texas A&M's resume above Ole Miss's resume. The only reason it seems Ole Miss got the nod above the Ags was that the Georgia loss looks better than a Texas loss. There was going to be controversy anyway with the decision to kick Notre Dame out, and now, Texas A&M fans have plenty of an argument to add to their own controversy.
No disrespect to Tulane, but Ole Miss has the much easier game if we're comparing their competition to Texas A&M's. A late loss also looks worse than a midseason loss, so that's not in favor of Texas A&M either.
The controversy all weekend centered on Miami, Alabama and Notre Dame. The head-to-head matchup in Week 1 was clearly the final straw in this decision, and Miami will now play Texas A&M, after the committee clearly made a mistake in the previous selection show by putting Notre Dame over Miami in the first place.
At least Texas A&M is in, and they will get rewarded with a home playoff game. It's not in the way Aggies fans would want, but a playoff appearance is better than no appearance at all.
