With Texas A&M basketball's 2024-25 regular season in the books, it's time to start hitting the portal. One name that the Aggies already reached out to was former Quinnipiac forward Amarri Monroe, who can use his guard like skills with an already impressive body to fill a gap for some much needed shooting.
Another name that the Aggies should pursue is the Mountain West Player of the Year in Donovan Dent, as Dent has just hit the transfer portal after New Mexico's loss to Michigan State in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. The Lobos had an impressive recent history, with this year being the second consecutive season making the tournament. Now, it's time for Buzz Williams and his team to expand their search to the Mountain West.
Dent's shooting and shot creation is what the Aggies badly need
Now, of course we're not saying the Aggies were an awful shooting team, but just having Zhuric Phelps and Wade Taylor IV to lead the way in the shot creation and three-point department shows that Buzz has to bring in guys to improve the team's shooting depth.
For Monroe being 6-foot-7, I'd compare him to Solomon Washington except Monroe has a cleaner handle that can shoot well. I'd say Dent is comparable to a slightly taller version of Taylor IV who can put the ball on the floor and can create his own from in the paint. Dent is also a great catch-and-shoot guard that Buzz can utilize for off-ball screens.

New Mexico will definitely be losing a golden ticket, and whoever gets Dent will be extremely lucky. While there will be plenty of guys to keep up with in the transfer portal, Buzz has to give this guy a look. As the Mountain West Player of the Year, Dent is only just getting started, and he'd be a quick fix to some of the shooting struggles we've seen out of Texas A&M basketball.
