Dametrious Crownover has come off the board early in the sixth round, as the New England Patriots have selected the five-year former Texas A&M player with the 196th pick. Crownover has come a very long way for the Aggies since entering College Station as a low three-star athlete who most schools were recruiting as a jumbo tight end.

The former regime in Aggieland saw his potential at tackle, however, and began to train him up there. He was very raw, but developed quite nicely even through the coaching change and has now done enough to be an NFL Draft selection.
Crownover has not even reached his final form yet, in all honesty. He has size that you can't teach, but when it comes to technique, he is still refining his craft slowly but surely— something that should make him a pleasant surprise for many fans as he continues to develop over the upcoming years.
Texas A&M tackle Dametrious Crownover heads to New England with 196th overall pick
He's a towering presence at tackle, coming in at 6'7" and 336 pounds— again, those are measurables that will catch the eye of any talent evaluator. He utilizes them well, becoming more and more of a brick wall against opposing pass rushers in pass protection.
Many thought that Crownover could go early in the fourth round, as teams were very impressed with him during the Senior Bowl. The run of tackles that was anticipated never quite came to fruition, however, and so the Pats ended up being able to snag him all the way down in the sixth round.
This is a great value for New England, as Crownover's tools are extremely coveted among pass-protectors and run-blockers both. He can completely swallow up smaller defensive ends with his length, and he has still barely scratched the surface of what he can do.
Congrats to the Patriots and to Dametrious— this is a great pickup. He will soon be a stalwart for New England up front.
